Hey all, I'm Higgs and I'm new to the forums. Ive been an AV-8B harrier mech for about 4 years now with the US Marines out of Cherry Point, NC. I'm heading to afghanistan with the 24th MEU later this year and I am looking to start my first serious cycle out there. Most of it will probably be done at sea, but either way. So, now that I made my intro..

While on the 22ND MEU in summer 07' I was aboard ship the majority of the time. I was pretty much in the gym twice a day, 2 hours each trip, 7 days a week. Racked with boredom, when i wasnt in the gym, i was curling tool boxes, doing pull ups on overhead pipes, etc. Anyone who has suffered ship life knows that sometimes you dont have time to wait an hour to get a shitty chow, and you stick with either a salad or nothing. Whats the best way to avoid starving my muscles aboard ship or when a proper diet is unatainable. I noticed a lot of guys stocking up on peanut butter, crackers, etc to munch on between meals when they were on a cycle. I'm pretty new to the serious side of lifting and was just curious of any tips someone may have. thanks in advance.

I know exactly how you feel buddy. I just drank protein instead of the disgusting chow most of the time. Same thing when I was in Afghan. Our hooch was right next to the gym tent so we were there two times a day. The locals prepared our food but it was still t-rats. Plus, we found out about 5 months into the deployment that two of the cooks had tiburculosous so I didn't eat there again. I had my wife mail me some Muscle Milk powder, tuna, crackers and peanut butter.

About a week into that routine and I could clear a room with my ass.

Stay safe.

Is that healthy to just sustain on high protein/high carb snacking and suppliments? I also intend to be starting a cycle while im there so i dont know how eating habbits are going to effect that.

Thats not the only thing that I ate, just when I couldn't stand the chow hall any longer.

i don't know what an echo6romeo or hotel is so...maybe u guys could ellaborate for me. i'm Army and not all too familiar with the corps.

that being said...
cycles while deployed would be one of the trickiest things to do in my opinion. considering that most of us don't have total stability in our routines over there, it can get hard trying to keep a solid diet/exercise program going. i would stick with something not so harsh if i were to decide to cycle while deployed. like epi or something. that way if you have to quit for one reason or another the sides won't be as bad on you. I'm a cook so I know all about the contractors and their methods of food prep. It's not pretty and you really have to get to know some cooks to get the inside scoop. What could look healthy could turn out to be saturated with extra fat and sugars. There is a method to the madness though. That would be energy. They assume that we are all infantry and that we need multiple sources of quick energy to maintain during missions. Much like the purpose of the MRE (the reason it has candy in them). But most soldier, airmen, sailors and marines are support elements now and don't require the unnesessary calories. This makes a lot of service men and women gain fat. (star and stripes ran an article saying that people were gaining an average of 10lbs of fat while deployed). and if you suggest healthy choices....then you will be written off as unappreciative of the efforts made by KBR Rolling Eyes
It is quite likely that if you're bulking, you'll have to dirty-bulk. If you're cutting then prepare to take all the joy out of eating entirely. Its a shitty thing they have going on but you can work with it and come out on top. Stay safe guys!

sorry i guess an echo 6 hotel must be a harrier mechanic Embarassed Laughing

Hahaha, no man. I was just fucking around. Echo6Romeo is my rank and last name. E6 (SSgt) and my last name starts with "R". A call sign sorta.

Actually, in the Marine Corps the Infantry is the largest MOS by far. And if you deploy the food is geared towards them for the most part. Luckily one of the kids that worked for me had a good friend that was a cook so he hooked us up with whatever we wanted. We had a little vehicle with a bed on it so he would take it up to the chow hall and fill the back of it with steaks and shit like that. When I was in Iraq the last time I seriously ate steak 95% of the time. Of course it was shitty military steak so it was probably like, Grade F meat or something but it was steak none the less. I put on 15-20 lbs of muscle and lost about 10 lbs of fat on that deployment and I wasn't cycling at the time. I was in the gym twice a day nearly everyday. That deployment was way better than my pump to Afghan. I was constantly going on op's and spent a lot of time away from my fob so I didn't have as solid of a routine. I'm headed back to Afghan at the end of the year and you can bet that I'll be on a cycle for sure.

considering all marines are infantry trained that makes sense, but the military as a whole is what i was saying....its mostly support.
anyway, good luck with your cycle. being an E6 will help you not get caught. at least it works that way in the army. an E3 on gear will be hanged though Laughing

take care of yourself and send pics to us!

yea, ill keep pics up and already took a lot of counter measures to keep the gear hidden, plus it helps that ill be cycling at the same time as 2 of my SNCO's.

Its looking like its gonna be a big bitch to eat right, but luckily as a mechanic i wont have to worry about missing gym consistancy due to field work.

I try to stay away from MREs as much as i can, its just to damn many calories.

And from what i understand the navy dropped NMCI on their ships and got some kind of high speed DSL or whatnot. Should be nice, I had to fill out my leave papers while still on the boat in 07' and it took me 3 and a half hours to print out a map quest.

Exclusion zones often exist around seats of government and abortion clinics. As a result of protests by the Westboro Baptist Church at the funerals of soldiers killed in the Iraq War, 29 states and the US Congress created exclusion zones around soldiers' funerals.[1] In 2005, the Parliament of the United Kingdom created a one kilometre exclusion zone around itself
